LISTENING TO THE HEART OF THE MASTER: Part 5

July 1, 2007

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE?
**place to eat
**sauce, spice or marinade

Jesus has asked us to be the spice of Christianity.
In order to shine witht the light of God's love, we must must "marinade" in Jesus.

Salt and Light ~ Matthew 5:13-16
"Let me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You've lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage. "Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.

Where do we need to be "salt" and "light" ?
**at the coffee shops
**in living rooms
**with our families

I love the reference in this passage about being light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. It makes me think of how things in moonlight look gray. Even though the true colors are there, they are hidden because moonlight is not true white light. It takes the pure white of sunlight to bring out the color, and even then, there are still invisible wavelengths of light and color that we can't see. In the same way, people should be able to see the hidden colors of God's nature through us and the lives we live.
