Unleash Your Worship: PART 1

HEART
July 2, 2006

Romans 12:1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.

Mark 12:29-31 Jesus replied, "The most important commandment is this: `Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.' The second is equally important: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' No other commandment is greater than these."

What is your heart?
l Understanding the Hebrew “Heart”
l Rings of a Tree: Center (of Egypt, of all the people, of Jerusalem)
l Personal Aspect: Your Emotions

How do you use it?
v In times of pain: 1 Samuel 1:15-16 "Oh no, sir!" she replied. "I haven't been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the LORD. Don't think I am a wicked woman! For I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow."
v In times of joy: Psalm 119:2 Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.
v Whether you want to or not: Luke 6:45 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

Challenge
l RELEASE your emotions in worship right now...

I couldn't make it on Sunday because we had family in town. Could you elaborate a little on "the Hebrew “Heart”"?

Sure I'll elaborate. Much to the shaggrin of most of our patrons.

Hebrew "Heart"
Center, middle, core.
Like the core ring in the rings of a tree.
Heart of Jerusalem, of the people, of Egypt and other references used in the OT.
Center of who you are.
Center of your emotions.
Your emotional center if you will.

Jesus was coming to them and saying. You want to worship God and follow Him. Good. Give him ALL of the core of your emotions. Love God with your center first. Nothing before Him. Give God your heart... then life, love, emotion to/for others will be purer, more complete, etc.

We focused on coming to worship and knowing that whether we want to or not, we show God our emotions. If we don't worship Him, we show Him our heart. If we do, despite perhaps our emotive state, we show Him how much we love Him. The important thing is that whether we are in pain or in joy, we give God the best of our hearts no matter what.

hope this helps

And...
we missed you sunday. It was a little light due to the holiday, but I think a good start to the service. Someone said we need to start video-taping our services. Sounds like a lot of work. It was weird not to have luke playing the drums after services. I'll do a short recap leading into next weekends service as well.
Hope your family and you are well. See ya/ talk to ya soon.
